Before surgery

Our patient Preparation, Empowerment and Recovery Program (PER) is activated from the beginning to facilitate the medical process and ensure the best results.

We prepare our patients to come to their surgery in the best physical and emotional condition

The goal of this phase of the PER program is for the patient to come to surgery feeling empowered, both physically and psychologically. To do this, we carry out a fully personalized evaluation to find out how the patient is feeling at different levels before surgery. This will allow us to discover weaknesses and strengths with which to improve the process.

Another key point at this stage is communication, since it is proven that patients face any medical procedure much better if they are correctly informed of their situation, the treatment alternatives they have, the benefits and the risks. Our multidisciplinary team will answer all the questions that may arise so that the patient knows the process and feels safe.

IN THE FOLLOWING, WE DESCRIBE THE SPECIFIC STEPS THAT MAKE UP THIS PHASE OF THE PER PROGRAM:

VISIT WITH THE NEUROSURGEON OR ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

Neurological examination and explanation of the most appropriate surgical technique for the patient. After the visit, the patient and their family are informed by the administrative team of the details of the administrative process, and get answers to any questions about the help they will receive before and after surgery.

APPOINTMENT WITH THE NURSE

Detection of patients with surgical risk, request for blood test (blood count, coagulation, biochemistry, vitamin D and B, folic acid), description of the care process. Prescriptions for pre-surgery medications are given to the patient.

INSTRUCTIONS ON THE MEDICATION

For the night before surgery. Premedication with anxiolytic, diazepam 5mg sublingual before entering the operating room or while in the waiting room.

OPTIONAL APPOINTMENT WITH PHYSICAL THERAPIST

Evaluation of the presurgical physical condition and detection of possible deficits. Active education on postural therapy prior to surgery and personalized exercises for the patient to continue on their own at the end of the process.

NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT

Those patients who need it will be sent to a specialist for assessment and support before the surgery.
